American Leak Detection Franchise Owner Battles Parent Company Over Failed $70M Sale
February 10, 2025 | 2 minute read
Matthew Hill of North Little Rock and other franchise owners of American Leak Detection thought they had secured a deal to sell their businesses to a private equity firm last year.
But the deal went down the drain.
Parent company Water Intelligence of London held the right of first refusal if it could match the tentative offer from Banner Capital Management LLC of Lehi, Utah.
But instead of matching Banner’s price or allowing the sale to go through, Water Intelligence never responded to the offer, effectively scuttling a deal that would have merged 10 franchises into one company, Hill said. He owns the American Leak Detection franchise in North Little Rock, which services most of Arkansas.
“Water Intelligence doesn’t want to pay the price,” Hill said. “They had their first right of refusal, and we got no answer.”
Plumbing company American Leak Detection in contract dispute over multi-million dollar deal
January 21, 2025 | by Lucas Dufalla
About a year ago, Matthew Hill was thinking about retirement.
Hill has owned a franchise of American Leak Detection -- a plumbing company -- for nearly 30 years. But he was getting ready to retire in about five years. With this in mind, he made an arrangement: his franchise, along with others across the country, would merge and be sold to a Utah-based private equity group.
That didn't happen, though. A contractual dispute between Hill and the owners of his franchise has eliminated that deal. Hill is pursuing arbitration with the national office of American Leak Detection, seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.
"This is all about business. This is about trying to find a way to retire in the future," Hill said.

The past three years for Water Intelligence (LON:WATR) investors has not been profitable
July 26, 2024 | 3 minute read
Water Intelligence plc (LON:WATR) shareholders should be happy to see the share price up 22% in the last quarter. So the improvement may be a real relief to some. Perhaps the company has turned over a new leaf.
Now let's have a look at the company's fundamentals, and see if the long term shareholder return has matched the performance of the underlying business.
